Leah Maertens is from Fergus Falls, M.N. She and her husband Dustin have 3 children. She grew up on a dairy farm near Fergus Falls.

After graduating high school, she pursued a degree in Veterinary Technology. Maertens worked as a Certified Veterinary Technician for over 10 years before making the switch to an office position and is currently the office manager for the Otter Tail County Extension Office.

The decision to raise Boer goats was fueled by a desire to raise livestock and the small acreage that the Maertens started on. Fast forward 13 years, and their herd size and acreage has tripled.

She is the Co-Chair of the Minnesota State 4-H Meat Goat Show Committee, and loves spending any free time she has at the lake.

Maertens is looking forward to serving the association and industry as it continues to stabilize and thrive.
