Back to All Ambassadors 2024 Terry & Sue Taylor We are honored and humbled to be selected by our peers as this year’s Ambassador of the Breed. Of all the ribbons, trophies, banners, and titles received through the years, this honor you bestow will be our most cherished. We are Sue and Terry Taylor, and we live in Smyer, Texas, where we own and operate Windy Acres Boers. We have been married for 30 years, are Native West Texans and have three children and three grandchildren. Some 25 years ago, we bought our first goats for our son’s FFA project to show at the county show. Later, we met Darwin McLeod and bought his 12 head of Fullblood registered goats, including a Mojo Magic son and a Pipeline daughter. We will miss Darwin’s knowledge and sense of humor. This industry has given us the unique ability to help young people with their projects and exhibitions, stay in touch with the many friends we have made, and share knowledge of the breed that others have taken the time to do with us. We take a lot of pride in these animals and are humbled by our success; it is a passion that gets in your blood. We have had a tremendous amount of help along the way from great friends, but a few sort of stick out. We went to our first show in Goldthwaithe, TX, where we met Wayne Ables. Wayne could see we needed a lot of help, and for years thereafter, he taught us everything he knew about goats. At that show, we heard the words “flush” and “AI,” which led us to know John and Jackie Edwards. John & Jackie continued to teach and mentor us in the breeding and production aspect of the breed, and with our first flush to Cannon, set the foundation of our program. Later, we met Dr. Robert Dressler, who, with his expertise, helped teach us to develop the marketing side of the business that introduced our program to the industry. Last yet most importantly, we thank Floyd and LuDean Taylor, Terry’s parents, for their help and support. Success is determined by those whom you surround yourself with. Everything we have accomplished regarding success in production, the show or sale ring, was because of help along the way, and many individuals have helped us forge our path. We have always done our best to repay that and be remembered as givers to those who asked. Again, thank you for this honor!

Get to know ABGA National Show Judge, Anton Ward. Anton Ward Anton Ward Get to know ABGA National Show Judge, Anton Ward. Anton Ward, a seasoned livestock judge and agricultural expert, was born and raised in the province of Tranvaal, now known as Limpopo Province, in South Africa. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Animal Science from Pretoria Technicon, which laid the foundation for his extensive career in livestock judging and animal husbandry. Anton moved to the United States in 1993, initially settling in North Carolina, where he lived until 2014 before relocating to Southwest Missouri, where he currently resides. Anton has been judging livestock since 1988, a passion that has seen him traverse numerous arenas across the United States and Canada. His expertise in the field led to his involvement with the American Boer Goat Association (ABGA) from its inception. Over the years, Anton has judged many major livestock shows, demonstrating his profound knowledge and commitment to the industry. His skills and experience have also been instrumental in training most of the early Canadian judges and many in the U.S., ensuring high standards and consistency in livestock judging. Notably, Anton has judged the prestigious ABGA National Show seven times, with his eighth appearance slated for 2024. In addition to raising Boer goats, Anton has also been dedicated to raising beef cattle since 2003. His lifelong dedication to livestock, combined with his extensive experience and training, makes Anton Ward a respected and influential figure in the agricultural community. Events/Show Logistics Lead & JABGA Liaison - Jaelynn Reyes, a Texas native, excelled in agriculture, leading FFA, starting a consulting business, and graduating in December 2023. Jaelynn Namio-Grant is a proud Texas native who currently resides in San Antonio, Texas, with her husband Connor, their son Samuel, and their German Shepherd dog, Bubba. She earned her B.S. in Agricultural Science and Leadership from Angelo State University, where she served as President of Collegiate FFA and was involved in Block & Bridle, the Meat & Food Science Association, and the Texas Trophy Hunters Association. Jaelynn was also a member of the 2021 Collegiate Meat Judging Team and gained applied experience in meat science while working in the university’s Food Safety and Product Development Lab, assisting with harvesting, processing, and evaluating livestock to support meat quality and safety research. Dedicated to youth development in agriculture, Jaelynn established a livestock consulting business focused on mentoring students from urban backgrounds. She has completed internships at Texas major shows, actively volunteers at both local and county shows, and serves as a judge for Leadership and Career Development Events across Texas. In 2023, Jaelynn began working in registration and DNA services and now proudly serves as the JABGA Youth Liaison, where she is dedicated to empowering youth and cultivating the next generation of agricultural leaders. Entry fee is $10 per group per show. Cash entries will be taken up to the time of group class verification deadline. Exhibitors must complete the entry form; listing each animal’s tattoo and registration number and submit it to the office for verification by 9 am of the day of the show. The goats must also be shown in their regular class. Any animal disqualified in a regular class for a cull fault or tattoo will not be eligible for the pairs or group classes. Fullblood Group Classes will follow the Fullblood Doe Overall Drive and Percentage Group Classes will follow the Percentage Doe Overall Drive. FULLBLOOD GET OF SIRE: Three Fullblood or Purebred offspring of the same buck with both sexes represented. Must have at least 1 of each sex. Any age and any sex. Do not have to be owned by the same person. PERCENTAGE GET OF SIRE: Three Percentage does, any age that are by the same buck. Do not have to be owned by the same person. FULLBLOOD PRODUCE OF DAM: Two offspring out of the same doe. Do not have to be owned by the same person. PERCENTAGE PRODUCE OF DAM: Two offspring out of the same doe. To be eligible, the dam must be registered in an ABGA Herd book. Do not have to be owned by the same person. FULLBLOOD BREEDER’S HERD: The exhibitor of the herd must be the breeder of record. Goats owned by other exhibitors may be included provided the exhibitor of the breeder’s herd was listed as the owner or co-owner of the dam of the included goat(s) at the time of conception: Two Fullblood or Purebred does less than 12 months, Two Fullblood or Purebred does 12 months or greater, A buck of any age. PERCENTAGE DOE BREEDER’S HERD: The exhibitor of the herd must be the breeder of record. Goats owned by other exhibitors may be included provided the exhibitor of the breeder’s herd was listed as the owner or co-owner of the dam of the included goat(s) at the time of conception: Two percentage does less than 12 months, Two percentage does 12 months or greater. PAIR CLASSES The following rules apply for pair classes. Entry fee is $10 per pair per show. Cash entries will be taken up to the time of the pair class verification deadline. Pair entries must have identical owners. Exhibitors must complete the entry form; listing each animal’s tattoo and registration number and submitted to the office for verification by 9am of each show. Animal information will be checked upon entry at the gate. The goats must also be shown in their regular class. Any animal disqualified in a regular class for a cull fault or tattoo will not be eligible for the pairs or group classes. Junior Pairs classes will follow the Junior Division Drive and the Senior Pairs classes will follow the Overall Drive. Best Pair of Doe/Buck Kids will follow the Junior Fullblood Doe Drive. BEST PAIR KIDS: Two animals shown in the 0–12-month classes of the respective division. Classes are Best Pair of Buck Kids, Best Pair of Fullblood Doe Kids, Best Pair of Percentage Doe Kids BEST PAIR ONE YEAR AND OLDER: Two animals shown in the yearling and/or senior classes of the respective divisions. DNA & Registration Clerk - Born in Texas, Catarina Hernandez thrived in agriculture through 4-H and FFA. Graduated ASU in Animal Science, now a full-time DNA and Registrations at ABGA. I was born in Monahans, Texas and moved to Sonora, Texas when I was three years old. My family raises white Dorpers and had a herd of Spanish-Boer goats. My father is an AgriLife Extension agent and has inspired me to continue my journey in the agriculture industry. I participated in 4-H for 10 years and the Sonora FFA chapter during my four years of high school. I was active in both clubs and participated in multiple competitions including the Range Science contests. Throughout my 10 years in 4-H, I showed market lambs and goats at the county and major livestock shows. Caring for and practicing with my livestock deepened my love for agriculture. I continued my education at Angelo State University (ASU) in August 2020, majoring in Animal Science with a minor in Business Administration. I participated in the ag department as the Vice President of the Delta Tau Alpha Agriculture Honor Society, a member and historian of Block & Bridle, a member of the Meat and Food Association, and Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association. During the summer of 2023, I was a member of the ASU Collegiate Meats Quiz Bowl team and competed at the AMSA RMC in ST. Paul, Minnesota. I was fortunate to intern at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Association during the 2022 show season. I have also enjoyed going back home to Sonora, Texas to help with the county livestock show and range contests, as well as, taking care of our own livestock. I graduated from ASU in December of 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a minor in Business Administration. I am grateful for the opportunity to work as a full-time registrations clerk at ABGA. Led by: Each committee shall be led by a committee chair, who shall be appointed by the President of the BOD with majority approval of the board. The appointed chair of the committee shall nominate a co-chair of their choosing to be approved by the BOD. Reports to: Committees will report to the BOD and shall never have the power to exercise the authority of the BOD. Committee Member Selection and Quantity: Regular members in good standing of the ABGA may apply for any active committee. The chair and co-chair of the committee shall select members based on the qualifications indicated in the application. Each committee shall consist of no less than 4 total members. At least one, but no more than 50% of the whole committee, shall be currently seated on the BOD. ABGA staff members can be on committees as voting or non-voting members, as designated by the Committee Chair. Any BOD shall reserve the right to attend a committee meeting they are not an active member of in a non-voting capacity. Meeting minutes and recordings: A committee member shall be designated to keep minutes of all meetings. Recordings of the meetings shall also be taken and placed in ABGA designated electronic file. Minutes shall be made available to the BOD upon request. Meeting times and host: Each committee shall meet at least bimonthly. Meetings shall be conducted through a selected online platform as designated by the BOD. Meetings shall be hosted and organized by the Office Manager or committee chair to ensure proper recording and access is available to the ABGA. Meeting schedule policy: Meetings shall be scheduled, and committee members notified a minimum of 5 business days in advance of the meeting unless otherwise needed on a case-by-case basis. Confidentiality agreement: Members of the finance committee, and any other committees, as directed by the President of the ABGA, shall sign and submit a confidentiality agreement, upon acceptance to the committee, and then on an annual basis to the ABGA office. Removal from Committee: Failure to comply with any of these policies will result in removal from the committee in accordance with Bylaw 8.2. Help Shape the Future of the ABGA — Join a Committee!
