Bred and Owned and Breeding Showmanship Judge Josh Taylor Josh Taylor, a proud OSU grad & ag leader, has judged top national shows & now manages the Payne County Expo, supporting his community. Josh Taylor, a Perkins, Oklahoma native, is an experienced livestock judge and agricultural leader. An ABGA certified judge since 2010, he has officiated at the National Open Show three times and the National Junior Show twice. He holds a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Leadership from Oklahoma State University. Currently, Josh serves as the Managing Director of the Payne County Expo Center in Stillwater, OK, where he continues to contribute to the agricultural and livestock community. Sammy Lerena, ABGA judge and Red Oak Ranch owner in Texas, raises Boer goats and runs a reproduction business, specializing in AI for sheep and goats. JABGA Judge: Sammy Lerena Sammy Lerena, ABGA judge and Red Oak Ranch owner in Texas, raises Boer goats and runs a reproduction business, specializing in AI for sheep and goats. Sammy Lerena and his wife Taylor live in Lipan, Texas where they own and operate Red Oak Ranch. Their herd currently is about 150 head. Sammy Lerena Sammy has been an ABGA member since 2006, and in the spring of 2014, he became a Certified Judge for the ABGA. Since then, he's judged in over 25 different states. Some of his judging highlights has been judging 4 different times at the ABGA National Show, Yellow Rose Classic at Fort Worth Stock show twice, NAILE in Louisville twice and the Houston Livestock Show Along with actively raising competitive show goats, Sammy also has a small ruminant reproduction business, where much of the year he travels the country artificially inseminating 500-700 head of sheep and goats.  For more information or questions, contact criley@abga.org

This event fosters confidence, critical thinking, and leadership, empowering JABGA youth to advocate for agriculture and connect with their community. Meet JABGA Area 3 Regional Show Secretary & One of Our National Show Superintendents Being the JABGA Area 3 Regional Show Secretary is all about paying it forward for Adrienne and Joe Kidder. Adrienne & Joe Kidder Being the JABGA Area 3 Regional Show Secretary is all about paying it forward for Adrienne and Joe Kidder. “Our daughter would not be who she is today without all the experiences she gained from the JABGA,” said Adrienne Kidder. “We just wanted to give back with hopes to help other families.” Becoming the Show Secretary started when they were approached by a couple of local breeders and the president of the JABGA about hosting a show. Indiana is known as the Crossroads of America, Adrienne explained. Several major interstate systems cross in Indiana. Adrienne & Hannah Kidder “We all felt it would be the perfect location for a JABGA Regional Show,” said Adrienne, who joined the American Boer Goat Association (ABGA) for her daughter Hannah. After joining the ABGA, they started Kidder Show Stock and their own breeding program. They gathered different bloodlines from some of the best breeders in the business, Adrienne explained. “We love selling our does and bucks to the youth, whether it is to JABGA members, 4-H or FFA members,” she added. “The smile on the kids’ faces and the accomplishments they gain is why we do this.” While doing this, the Kidder family has grown. “The friends that we have met in this industry we consider like family,” Adrienne said. Joe Kidder But this isn’t the only way Joe is involved in the ABGA. He’s also a 2022 National Show Superintendent. Joe said he was first was given the opportunity to be a Superintendent by Jesse Kimmel’s suggestion for him to volunteer. Through that suggestion, Joe was able to get more involved with the National Show. “ Being a National Show Superintendent I feel is an honor,” he said. “It has been a great opportunity to be able to give back to the ABGA and the wonderful breeders of this industry.”

Why We Updated the Areas for the Junior American Boer Goat Association The Junior American Boer Goat Association (JABGA) is growing rapidly, prompting us to update our areas for the first time in over a decade. In the past 10 years our membership has also shifted. This change reflects those shifts to better serve everyone. Here’s why we made this change and how it benefits our members. JABGA Area Map - Effective 2025 Rapid Growth Brings New Opportunities JABGA has experienced some growth over the past several years. This growth has created exciting opportunities but also revealed some challenges with our existing area structure. The distribution of members across the country had become uneven, making it clear that an update was overdue. Balancing the Areas Our primary goal in updating the areas was to create a more balanced distribution of members. Previously, some areas had significantly more members than others, which made participation in events and leadership activities more challenging for some. The new structure ensures that each area has as equal a number of members as possible, promoting fairness and encouraging more consistent participation. Traveling Made Easier We understand that traveling to shows, and competitions can be a big commitment for our Junior members and their families. With the updated areas, members will have the opportunity to travel to events in states that are closer to home. This change not only reduces travel time and expenses but also makes it more convenient for members to stay involved and engaged in JABGA activities. Looking Ahead We’re excited about the positive impact this update will have on our organization and our Junior members. The new structure represents our commitment to fairness, accessibility, and growth as we continue to support the next generation of Boer goat enthusiasts. Thank you to everyone who provided input and support during this process. We look forward to seeing our members thrive in these newly balanced areas. Day One of our Junior American Boer Goat Association Board of Directors Face-to-Face meeting is complete! Our JABGA Board members spent their first full day breaking the ice -- getting acquainted with each other and the ABGA office, writing National Show thank-you notes, and viewing a leadership TED Talk (video below). This sparked an afternoon of conversation: "What does JABGA mean to you? How do you see JABGA moving into the future? What would you like to see at the 2023 JABGA National Show?" The group finished out the night with pizza. Our JABGA Board of Directors has a fun-filled (and busy!) few days ahead of them! UP NEXT: a tour of the Angelo State University Meat Lab and Management, Instruction, and Research Center. #JABGA #news
