As a girl growing up in Kentucky, I have been surrounded by ag my whole life. Throughout the past 18 years on this earth, I have learned what agricultural means to me. The foundation of the world is agriculture. Ag gives you everything – from the clothes on your back to the lights in your house. A few months ago, I found myself in front of a freshman ag class teaching them what agricultural is. After the lesson I left them with one last thing to remember, “without agricultural, we have nothing, without agriculture, we are nothing”. The American Boer Goat Association (ABGA) is a great representation of what agriculture is. This organization teaches young students about the importance of animals and how to properly care for them. We need more organizations such as the ABGA to share the importance of agriculture. I strive to share the importance of ag and continue to share with others why we must keep ag the focal point in everyday life. Related Posts

Lexi Bingham Hi, my name is Lexi Bingham, and I am a 16-year-old from Collbran, Colorado. I am currently serving as your Treasurer for the Junior American Boer Goat Association (JABGA). I have been showing and raising Boer goats for nine years and have been actively involved in JABGA for the past eight years. I currently attend Plateau Valley High School, where I plan to graduate early during my junior year in 2027. After graduation, I plan to continue growing my graphic design business while expanding my Boer goat breeding program. I am actively involved in both 4-H and FFA. Through 4-H, I show market goats and, in previous years, showed my service dog, Chief. Throughout my years in 4-H, I have held several leadership positions, including club Treasurer and President, where I developed valuable leadership, communication, and organizational skills. In FFA, my Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) focuses on my goat breeding operation. I raise both registered Boer goats and wetherbred goats that I market to 4-H and FFA exhibitors across the region. My goal is to provide high-quality livestock while helping younger exhibitors succeed in the show ring. Through my SAE, I have learned the importance of animal husbandry, genetics, record keeping, marketing, and customer service. Outside of agriculture, I enjoy creating graphics and promotional materials through my graphic design business, quilting for friends and family, reading, and spending time with my family and friends. Whether I'm in the barn, designing for clients, or volunteering through agricultural organizations, I strive to make a positive impact and continue learning every day.

Being a Mentor by Logan Hollen Finding a mentor in a new program, like JABGA, provides guidance, builds experience, and fosters shared passion to achieve your goals. When joining any program or association it can be easy to feel as though you are always one step behind. Everyone already has a routine and a set way of doing their selected tasks. How can you find yourself within a new program or association? From my own experience I would say that finding a mentor can be very beneficial. I have had the pleasure of growing up in the Junior American Boer Goat Association atmosphere and while growing up in this association I have met so many people who have kept me focused and on track to meet my goals. By having these teachers in my life, I have reached many of my set goals but more importantly I have created a strong and set path that helped me reach those goals. With a mentor you are not only learning but experiencing what they have gone through in the past and present. This alone gives you more experience to then build a stronger program of your own. I have had the opportunity to be a mentor myself while working on the JABGA board of directors. It has been a wonderful experience getting to meet so many young individuals that have fallen in love with the same association that I fell in love with many years ago. At the end of the day, we all have the same goals and passion and by being a mentor you can give the experience to help others reach those goals pushed by their own passion. So, the next time you find yourself needing a guide or looking for a push in the right direction just remember that this association is filled with people who want to see you succeed! Meet McKenna Blair First Coni Ross Memorial Scholarship Recipient “Being chosen as the first-ever Coni Ross scholarship recipient means a lot to me,” said... First Coni Ross Memorial Scholarship Recipient “Being chosen as the first-ever Coni Ross scholarship recipient means a lot to me,” said McKenna Blair, who is from Wagoner, Okla. “I considered her to be the best of the best.” Ranked 7th in her class, McKenna graduated Wagoner High School with a 4.0 GPA in May 2021. She now attends Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. As a double major in Agriculture Education and Agriculture Communications, she has a 4.0 GPA. “I will forever cherish Coni’s impact on my life,” McKenna said. “I can still remember her smiling and walking around the ring doing what she loved most. She brought so much positivity to the barns that always brightened my day.” Known worldwide for her knowledge of Boer goats and her interest in sharing her knowledge with others, McKenna said she hopes to follow in Coni’s footsteps. “I can only hope to, one day, be as knowledgeable about livestock as Coni and expand my own education to help and mold the generations to come,” McKenna said. After she graduates from college, McKenna wants to be an ag educator and build her own Boer goat herd. “Boer goats are beautiful animals,” McKenna said. “There is nothing cuter than a baby goat.” But it goes farther than that for McKenna. McKenna also wants to pay it forward by providing show animals to kids who are interested in showing and building a bond with the younger generations. McKenna said if you look deeper into what the Boer goat offers, there are many reasons to like Boer goats. “At the show level, they teach youth and adults how to manage time as well as how to be good caregivers,” she explained. “I think one of the greatest things Boer goats have to offer is their efficiency to convert forage to meat production. If a person isn’t interested in the show aspect of the Boer goat, the market and farm-to-table aspect is very beneficial and should be utilized more in today's world.” Related Posts

ULTRASOUND CARCASS CONTEST This contest is a new opportunity for JABGA members which replaces the Meat Goat Evaluation Contest. All data collected can be used by the ABGA for future research and education. GENERAL CONTEST RULES Exhibitor must be a member of JABGA Contest is open to both wethers and does entered into the Market Goat show Goat must have all milk teeth in place Goat must be slick shorn Animals can be registered or unregistered Contest entry will be done on Showman at time of entry This is not a terminal contest; animals will remain in the ownership of the exhibitor after ultrasound. CARCASS CLASS RULES Carcass ultrasound will be conducted for each animal entering this contest Live weight will be taken on an official scale at time of ultrasound Minimum & maximum live weight = 60 to 125 pounds Estimated carcass weight = Live weight * 58% Fat thickness, body wall thickness and ribeye area will be measured via ultrasound %BCTRC = 49.936 - (0.0848 X Carcass Wt., lb.) - (4.376 X Fat Thickness, in.) - (3.530 X Body Wall Thickness, in.) + (2.456 X Ribeye Area, square in.) Goats will be ranked on %BCTRC SCORING AND PAYOUT Payout will be awarded for each division. 2026 National Photography Contest 2026 National Photography Contest Photo Contest Photography contest opens February 17th and closes April 1st, 2026 Age divisions will be determined based on the contestant's age on July 1st, 2025 Youth division: 4-21 years of age Adult division: 22+ years of age Winners will be announced and displayed at Nationals. Photo requirements: Photos must be submitted as PNG or PDF file. Photos must be formatted to be 8x10 compatible for printing. The person submitting the photo must have taken the photograph themselves. By submitting an entry, you are confirming the image is your original work. The ABGA is not responsible for photos that do not print correctly due to improper sizing, formatting, or resolution. Categories: Barn Life (any type of animal) Photos that capture life around the barn, including livestock and other animals. This can include feeding time, chores, daily routines or special moments with animals. Nature Images highlighting the outdoors, landscapes, sunsets, scenery or wildlife.
