Submit Agenda Items for Winter 2022 Face-to-Face:

The ABGA Board of Directors is now accepting agenda items to be included at their Winter 2022 Face-to-Face meeting in Louisville, Ky. on December 2-3, 2022. ABGA members in good standing are welcome to submit agenda items for discussion.

ABGA members can submit their agenda items in the form below until the end of the day on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

New ABGA Directors Announced:

ABGA is excited to announce the addition of three new directors to the Board of Directors. We appreciate the time and dedication of our Board in their service to ABGA. Congratulations to these directors!

New Directors:

  • Rosalinda Vizina, representing Region 1

  • BJ Carbino, representing Region 10

  • Chuck Fitzwater, representing Region 12

Registry and Member Software Update:

Adjustments are being made to ensure the new user software, iCompete, will fully replace ILR2 and the Blue Screen. iCompete is equipped to handle ABGA [SC1] memberships, renewals, registry work, and show points within a single platform for all members.

iCompete will be released in three phases:

Phase 1: Memberships

  • This should be opened to members very soon!

  • Members will receive an email invite to renew online and update their member information. Only one login will be used per member.

  • At the time of login, members will not be able to renew their membership until all outstanding balances for ABGA work are paid.

  • During Phase 1, members will only be able to view animals they own. Members will not have access to manage, register, or transfer animals until Phase 2.

Phase 2: Registrations

  • Members will be able to manage their animals (register, transfer, submit service memos, etc.) in iCompete.

  • Transactions will be validated and posted by ABGA office staff after members submit transactions and complete payments in iCompete.

Phase 3: Shows

  • ABGA show applications, show calendars, show entries, and show results will be entered in iCompete. All animals will be validated at the time of entry.

ABGA hopes iCompete will provide a more user-friendly and streamlined interface for members, making it easier to manage and utilize your ABGA membership. We anticipate some trial-and-error will be necessary as ABGA staff and members adjust to iCompete. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Thanksgiving Holiday Hours:

We will be closed starting at noon on Wednesday, November 23, and will remain closed through Friday, November 25, for the holiday weekend. Our regular hours will resume on Monday, November 28.

On behalf of the ABGA office staff, we wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

ABGA on Boer Goat Nation:

In case you missed it: ABGA Treasurer Sam Knott and Region 7 Director Katherine Klug appeared on Boer Goat Nation earlier this week!

You can watch the entire broadcast on the Boer Goat Nation page or our website below:

To improve communication and open engagement with ABGA’s nearly 10,000 members and industry partners, the ABGA Board of Directors is excited to partner with Boer Goat Nation. The Board of Directors has committed to participating in the podcast once a month to share updates and progress within ABGA and JABGA and share highlights from published minutes from the monthly meetings of the Board of Directors.

Re-Tattooing Animals:

If an ABGA registered animal requires re-tattooing, the new tattoo must be placed directly on top of the old tattoo. According to the ABGA Rules and Regulations, the Certificate of Registration must be returned to ABGA, and the Certificate is reissued to reflect that the animal has been retattooed.

Registrations:

  • We are currently processing work submitted on November 17, 2022.

  • When completing a Registration Application (including in Online Live), be sure to include the registration numbers of both parents of the animal. Mark unregistered animals as “BOERX” (dam) or “UBUCK” (sire).

  • ABGA registered animals can be transferred from active members to non-active members via Transfer Application sent to the ABGA office via mail or email (mail@abga.org) when the original Certificate is not available. Animals cannot be transferred from active members to non-active members via Online Live.

Bookkeeping:

  • Taxes have been filed for 2021. The ABGA office can now proceed with the 2021 audit, with the help of ABGA’s Certified Public Accountants.

  • The ABGA office encourages members to update their herds and pay any remaining balances prior to Phase 1 of the iCompete software rollout (coming soon).

DNA:

  • DNA Processing: UC Davis's average processing time is 20-25 days.

  • We have received most DNA results up to October 31, 2022.

  • According to ABGA Rules and Regulations, members cannot request DNA testing for animals they do not own. For more information, please see the ABGA Rules and Regulations.

ABGA Sanctioned Shows:

  • Contact your show secretary FIRST if your show points are missing. If your show points are missing from the Blue Screen or are not calculated correctly, we may be waiting for the results from your show secretary. Show secretaries have 30 days after the show to submit results to ABGA.

  • Animals with a pending registration or outstanding Request For Information (RFI) are not eligible for ABGA or JABGA sanctioned shows, because they are not officially registered. Pending registrations are noted with a question mark (?) ahead of the animal’s individual pending number. (Ex: ?123456) For more information on pending registrations, see the ABGA Rules and Regulations.
