Led by: Each committee shall be led by a committee chair, who shall be appointed by the President of the BOD with majority approval of the board. The appointed chair of the committee shall nominate a co-chair of their choosing to be approved by the BOD. Reports to: Committees will report to the BOD and shall never have the power to exercise the authority of the BOD. Committee Member Selection and Quantity: Regular members in good standing of the ABGA may apply for any active committee. The chair and co-chair of the committee shall select members based on the qualifications indicated in the application. Each committee shall consist of no less than 4 total members. At least one, but no more than 50% of the whole committee, shall be currently seated on the BOD. ABGA staff members can be on committees as voting or non-voting members, as designated by the Committee Chair. Any BOD shall reserve the right to attend a committee meeting they are not an active member of in a non-voting capacity. Meeting minutes and recordings: A committee member shall be designated to keep minutes of all meetings. Recordings of the meetings shall also be taken and placed in ABGA designated electronic file. Minutes shall be made available to the BOD upon request. Meeting times and host: Each committee shall meet at least bimonthly. Meetings shall be conducted through a selected online platform as designated by the BOD. Meetings shall be hosted and organized by the Office Manager or committee chair to ensure proper recording and access is available to the ABGA. Meeting schedule policy: Meetings shall be scheduled, and committee members notified a minimum of 5 business days in advance of the meeting unless otherwise needed on a case-by-case basis. Confidentiality agreement: Members of the finance committee, and any other committees, as directed by the President of the ABGA, shall sign and submit a confidentiality agreement, upon acceptance to the committee, and then on an annual basis to the ABGA office. Removal from Committee: Failure to comply with any of these policies will result in removal from the committee in accordance with Bylaw 8.2. Help Shape the Future of the ABGA — Join a Committee!     Coni Ross was a pioneer and has become a legend within the goat industry; raising goats for more than 40 years. Coni Ross Memorial Class Coni Ross Memorial Class Coni Ross was a pioneer and has become a legend within the goat industry; raising goats for more than 40 years. The Coni Ross Memorial Production Aged Doe Class is designed to allow breeders to showcase the production, functionality and longevity within their doe herds. The animals will be evaluated on their ability to maintain these traits during and after being in production and raising multiple sets of offspring. Body Condition: Animals should be either currently in production and/or of the correct breeding body condition to breed and kid with ease. Animals with excess fat deposits will be faulted. Udder: Does must have a teat structure that allows a newborn kid to easily nurse without intervention. (Good udder attachment, no blown teats, etc.). Structural Integrity: Does should be sound on their feet and legs and exhibit the necessary structural traits: such as strong pasterns and wide pen set; to be functional in a breeding and/or pasture setting without intense management. Production Value: Number and quality of offspring raised. Special Rules: Open to all ABGA registered does (Fullblood, Purebred and Percentage) All does must be 5 years or older. Does must show evident signs they have naturally kidded and raised offspring. Does may be exhibited with any natural born kid under 12 months of age at their side to demonstrate the animal’s production ability and value. **Preference given to does with kids who are currently nursing. Exhibitors will be required to provide production records to include: Kidding dates Number of kids born Breeding information (Natural, AI, etc.) Milking and mothering ability Ease of kidding Production Records Form: Download Record Form ↓ Conis Memorial Class Form .pdf Download PDF • 148KB ABOUT CONI ROSS Coni Ross was a pioneer and has become a legend within the goat industry; raising goats for more than 40 years. During her time in the goat industry, Coni served as a director for multiple associations including: American Boer Goat Association, Texas Cashmere Association, and the American Meat Goat Association. She was also a well-respected judge within the ABGA, and judged the ABGA National Show six times throughout her judging career. Coni Ross Coni started raising goats in 1978 with angoras. Then, in the late 1980’s Coni imported 500 cashmere goat embryos from New Zealand, resulting in more than 250 live kids, and was one of the first to have success with embryo transfer in the United States. In 1995, Coni started her herd of Boer goats which eventually grew to more than 1200 head at its peak. Coni focused her breeding efforts to maintain functionality, longevity and mothering ability. She expected goats to thrive in a pasture setting, kid and raise offspring unassisted, all while remaining hardy, thrifty and structurally sound. Along with her dedication to her own herd and the many breed associations that she served; Coni also spent a great deal of her time helping other producers in the goat industry by providing what she called “Goat 911”. She spent countless hours on the phone helping other diagnose and treat goats across the United States. If you ever had the privilege to visit with Coni, you know that she always had her Bluetooth ear piece in and would happily share her more than 40 years of experience, knowledge, and treatment protocols with anyone that called. In 2015, Coni had a vision and sponsored a “5 & Older” class at the ABGA National Show for fullblood bucks and fullblood does to showcase animals that were 5 years and older but still productive and functional. The class has evolved over the years and has become an event to showcase and reward the breeders and animals who continue to maintain the traits that Coni spent her lifetime striving to produce.     The Public Speaking contest encourages participants to develop communication skills while sharing knowledge about the Boer goat industry and breed. 2025–2026 Regional and National Public Speaking Topics The Public Speaking contest encourages participants to develop communication skills while sharing knowledge about the Boer goat industry and breed. The Public Speaking Contest builds communication skills and confidence while allowing JABGA youth to share knowledge of the Boer goat industry. Each age division has specific topics that promote leadership, critical thinking, and advocacy for agriculture. Novice and Junior divisions may choose either of their two topics and may use the same one at both Regionals and Nationals. Age Division Time Allotted Topics NOVICE (4 – 7 years old) 2-4 minutes What challenge(s) have you faced with your animal(s) and how did you fix it? What is your favorite part of taking care of your goat? JUNIOR (8 – 12 years old) 3-5 minutes Why is responsibility important when raising livestock and how does it impact you as a breeder and/or showman? What traits do you look for when buying your next goat? i.e. for breeding or showing. INTERMEDIATE (13 – 16 years old) 4-6 minutes Regionals What are major challenges goat breeders face today and how do issues like disease, market trends and environmental factors impact their operations Nationals What are different nutritional needs for goats during their different life stages? i.e. kids, show goats, pregnant/nursing does and market goats.     American Boer Goat Association Secretary, Zach Westfall Back to Board of Directors Zach Westfall Treasurer, Region 8 Email Zach Westfall currently serves as the appointed interim director for Region 8 (formerly Region 9). Zach has had livestock for over 30 years, from working on a cattle farm and cultivating alfalfa fields when he was younger to raising sheep, pigs, and goats on his family farm. Zach has been a proud public servant for the last 20 years in the fire service and law enforcement. He is a captain for the Vincennes City Fire Department. The Junior American Boer Goat Association (JABGA) is now accepting applications for the JABGA Board of Directors . Applications completed by the nominee for the JABGA Board of Directors are due to the ABGA office via electronic form on or before March 1, 2025. The JABGA Board of Directors works alongside the ABGA Board of Directors to represent JABGA members across five areas of the United States as the main governing body of the Junior American Boer Goat Association (JABGA). JABGA Directors volunteer their personal time and effort in service of JABGA programs like the JABGA Regional Show Series and by promoting core JABGA values like scholarship, leadership, good sportsmanship, and character development. The JABGA Board of Directors also serves as youth ambassadors for the improvement and promotion of the Boer goat breed through the breeding, raising, and exhibition of American Boer Goats. Applications are to be approved by Youth Liaison and Director of Community Engagement Once approved and requirements are met then applicant will be placed on their area ballot Ballots are to be sent out by area electronically “A” Directors are to be elected on even years “B” Directors are to be elected on odd years If a director is turning 21/22 during their term, they must finish their term.     Ashley Roles Back to Board of Directors Ashley Roles Region 1 Email My parents would tell you that I was born in a barn. It might have been a sheep barn, but a barn, nonetheless. I was blessed with learning the ins and outs of the show and commercial industry as I had amazing mentors such as Terry Brown and Becky Crighton. I was active in 4-H since the 4th grade and served as a national 4-H ambassador. As of today, I am still involved in 4-H and serve as the Oregon State Fair Meat Goat Superintendent. I served both on the state level and national level in both Oregon Romney Breeders Association and the American Romney Breeders Association. Currently, I teach local youth about herd management through seminars set up by our local 4-H clubs or ag programs. Additionally, I enjoy and travel the Pacific Northwest (PNW) judging market animals at local fairs and/or jackpot shows. I was introduced to the Boer goats in 2008 at the Oregon Meat Goat Producers show and education seminar. I showed in USBGA shows until the ABGA made its way out west, and I joined in 2010. Since 2008, I have run my own herd of Boer goats. My goal has always been to produce high quality stock that can produce something for every kind of customer, from a 4-H kid that is selling at county fair or a doe that can compete at nationals. Currently, I own Culver Family Farm with Tim White, our daughters Lucy and Ella, along with my parents, Scott and Teresa Culver. The last time I counted we had over 180 head of goats and that number just keeps on growing. We sold out of the sheep about 4 years ago and started up Culver Family Farm Transportation Services LLC. This business has allowed me to gain knowledge and perspectives from different farms across the United States. Not to mention to meet and network with some amazing folks. My daytime job is working as a critical care nurse and I have been loving this career for over 10 years; with the last five of that being a charge nurse. I have served on numerous committees at work including policies and procedures, practice committees, and house-wide committees. I also enjoying serving as a preceptor and mentor to nursing students and new nurses. With all these experiences, I believe they have prepared me to represent the ABGA membership. The goat industry is what I work so hard for to promote and engage with in the (PNW). I know full well how the decisions made by the board impacts the breeders, exhibitors, shows, and youth development. It is important to me to keep the industry growing and always have a positive outlook, where we want people to engage various capacities. If Lucy and Ella choose this lifestyle, I want them to have something to look forward to in the industry. Mostly, I want the voices of Region 1 members to be heard here in the PNW, from the smallest hobby herd to the biggest commercial breeders.     Brooke Arce, a 16-year-old homeschooler and dual-enrolled student, is passionate about agriculture and raising Boer goats in Florida. Brooke Arce Hi! My name is Brooke Arce, and I'm 17 years old. I'm currently a Junior in high school and am homeschooled. In addition to being homeschooled, I'm also dual-enrolled at IRSC, where I can challenge myself academically and get a head start on my college education. Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time outdoors, and I have a deep passion for showing livestock, with Boer goats being my absolute favorite. I've been raising and showing Boer goats for 8 years, and I've been a member of JABGA for 6 of those years. Being a part of JABGA has given me the chance to connect with other young people who share the same interests and has helped me expand my knowledge in the livestock industry. It has also taught me countless life lessons that I carry with me every day. My mom and I run a small herd of Boer goats in Fellsmere, FL, where we carefully manage and care for our goats. Along with showing livestock, I also love spending time hunting and fishing with my family. I am incredibly passionate about agriculture, with the ultimate goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian. I'm excited to continue learning and growing, both in my academic studies and extracurricular activities. I am committed to expanding my knowledge and skills, not only in the livestock industry but specifically within the Boer goat industry.
